Evolution of iron minerals in a 100 years-old Technosol. Consequences on Zn mobility

We investigated the status of iron (Fe) and zinc (Zn) in a 100 years old Technosol. Fe is mainly under Fe(III) form, except a minor contribution of Fe(II) in depth. Soil evolution has led to ferrihydrite formation at the surface. Zn is sorbed to ferrihydrite but also to sulphides, sulphates and organic matter. Weathering of such material does not induce a dramatic increase of Zn solubility.
