In this article, we propose a design of one dimensional cylindrical photonic crystal (CPC) that is composed of SiO2 and Si alternating cylindrical layers. The optical properties of the CPC are investigated using the transfer matrix method in the cylindrical coordinate. Numerical results show that the suggested structures possess a photonic band gap in the optical frequency range. For high azimuthal mode number, m > 5, the photonic gap is greatly enhanced and it is robust for both transverse electric and magnetic polarizations. The proposed structure is a good candidate for applications including optical guidance, fiber optics communications among other potential applications.
