Phylogeny of the largest sample ever studied for the hyperdiverse genus Sarcophaga. First comprehensive phylogeny of Sarcophaga with taxa of all biogeographic regions. (Lipoptilocnema + Peckia) is the sister group of the monophyletic Sarcophaga. Ancestor shared by Sarcophaga and its sister clade originated in the Neotropical region. The range expansion of the genus Sarcophaga shows a pattern of a rapid radiation.
