We introduce two models of dark zone – based square photon sieve – in which a desired distribution of light pinholes are inserted into dark zones in the former model, whereas black zones are replaced by black pinholes in the last ones. It is shown that the location and size of the pinholes has an operative effect in increasing diffractive and imaging efficiency of square zone plate. We show that background intensity is well modified therefore visibility is noticeably enhanced. Moreover, the resolution is increased by reduction the width of the central maximum. In addition, secondary maxima are also well suppressed. As a result, focusing and imaging feature of square zone plate are significantly modified.
