Site has the greatest influence on epifaunal assemblages. The significance of the site depends however on the spatial scale of investigation. Where site conditions were similar other factors played a more significant role. The effect of substrate characteristics is less significant than the site/depth. Among substrate characteristics surface heterogeneity appears to be the strongest.
