Moisture absorption, thermal conductivity and noise mitigation of clay based plasters: The influence of mineralogical and textural characteristics

Pre-mixed earthen plasters were tested for highlighting any correlation between textural and/or compositional characteristic and their performances.

The presence of natural additives (straw particles/fibres) seems to increase open porosity and pore interconnection.

Abundance of clay minerals seems to improve the aptitude of the earthen plaster to control moisture adsorption and desorption.

Sound absorption performances seem to be correlated to open porosity and abundance of sand aggregate.

Macropore (> 0.05 μm) volume plays a considerable role in thermal conductivity performance.
