An analytical model has been developed for the perforation of ceramic-faced light armours. Deformation (mushrooming) and erosion of the projectile, compression/fragmentation and shear failure of the ceramic facing tile as well as perforation of backing plate have been considered in the model. The newly developed model have been found to be in good agreement with the test data for ceramic-faced metal plates subjected to projectile impact. The newly developed model have been found to be in reasonable agreement with the test data for ceramic-faced FRP laminates struck by US Ball M33.
