Potatoes, sugar beet and dry beans in southern Alberta are normally grown using conventional (CONV) soil management. A package of conservation (CONS) management systems was introduced and compared with CONV management. Soil microbial biomass and β-glucosidase enzyme activities were greater under CONS management than CONV management. The soil microbial community structure was shaped by management system.
