Nano-exploration of organic conditioning film formed on polymeric surfaces exposed to drinking water

Macromolecules forming the conditioning were detected by AFM (few millions/cm2 after 24 h immersion in drinking water). These biopolymers exhibited size range from 250 up to 1,250 nm, depending of the tested materials. Theoretical models indicate predominance of polysaccharide segments on polypeptide ones within the attached polymeric chains. At the scale of observation the biopolymers forming the conditioning film were scattered randomly over the surface examined.
