Evaluation of antifungal activity of essential oils against aflatoxigenic Aspergillus flavus and their allelopathic activity from fumigation to protect maize seeds during storage
Clove and vatica oils are effective fumigants compared to cinnamon and capsicum oils. Fumigation of vatica oil at 50 μL L−1 for 24 h inhibited A. flavus both in vitro and in vivo. Fumigation of maize seeds with clove and vatica oil at <5 μL L−1 per 100 g seeds could protect A. flavus under storage conditions as well. Vatica oil was more phytotoxic than clove oil during seed germination.
