Left ventricular cardiac twist and torsion values have not been described in early infancy. Early and late peak untwist rates and time to peak values have also not been described in children. 53 normal infants enrolled prospectively, with measures of rotational mechanics obtained at 1-2 months postnatal age. Excellent reproducibility for measures of peak rotational mechanics. Measures of time to peak values were less reproducible. Peak twist in early infancy is similar in premature neonates, and higher than in older children. Twist indexed to LV length (torsion) is lower in early infancy than in premature neonates, but higher than in term neonates.
