Impact of ion exchange membrane surface charge and hydrophobicity on electroconvection at underlimiting and overlimiting currents

An AMX-Sb anion-exchange membrane and three its modifications are studied. The membranes differ in surface charge, whose increase leads to lower hydrophobicity. Early oscillations of potential are due to equilibrium electroconvective instability. Equilibrium electroconvection increases with increasing surface charge. Non-equilibrium electroconvection is higher at a more hydrophobic surface.
