Vernalisation and photoperiod sensitivity in wheat: Impact on canopy development and yield components

文摘
We studied wheat near isogenic lines combining VRN1 and PPD-D1, including new alleles for VRN1-A1. Stem elongation was up to 23% longer with PPD-D1 sensitivity, dependent on VRN1 and vernalisation status. Vernalised or spring genotypes had shorter stem elongation but higher grain number per spike and unit area. GxE resulting in more leaves and tillers was compensated by higher tiller mortality and smaller leaf size. Development genes may contribute to canopy and yield components via organ size and uniformity.
