This report is the characterization of p-hydroxyphenylacetate (HPA) degradation operon in Acinetobacter baumannii. The gene arrangement of HPA degradation operon in A. baumannii is different from other species and is unique for the presence of sucinic semialdehyde dehydrogenase gene in the operon. Functional annotation of the oxygenase component of HPA 3-hydroxylase allows correct assignment of its homologous enzymes.
