Efficient electrocatalysts of Fe–Co–Se and Ni–Co–Se chalcogenide were obtained. Co0.7Fe0.3Se2 showed better catalytic activity than that of Co0.7Ni0.3Se2 in acidic electrolytes. Co0.7Fe0.3Se2 displayed even superior stability, tolerance to methanol, ethanol and ethylene glycol crossover effects.
