Many predators are precocial, but few studies have compared juveniles to adults.

We quantified key predatory behaviors of both juvenile and adult sidewinders.

For the most part, juveniles are as effective as adults at hunting and subduing prey.

Adult snakes may be better at locating profitable hunting sites.

These findings provide important baseline data for future empirical research.
