The youngest Eoptychoptera is described from Albian El Soplao amber.

It has an elongated proboscis unknown among extant Ptychopteridae.

The possibility of biting by Mesozoic Ptychopteridae is discussed.

The Barremian pupa has a long respiratory horn typical of extant ptychopterids.

Eoptychoptera occurred in all three climatic belts of the Early Cretaceous.
