An optimization approach analyses the CO2 reduction potential of waste in the cement industry. Two cement production scenarios were compared: Kyoto period vs. post Kyoto period. Eight cases were analysed, resulting from the combination of different mitigation options. The optimal production plan prioritizes the production of new types of low-clinker cements. It identifies significant implications associated with the carbon price in future scenarios.
