A CGE model is used to estimate the impact of ethanol promotion in Mexico. The benefits of a policy designed to promote the use of ethanol are rather small. The rural sector benefits modestly, but production in other sectors decrease. Alternative policies advance economic growth and welfare to a greater extent.
