UV but not Se increased the formation of Si phytoliths. Si contents were in negative relation with Ca contents in leaves. UV and Se treatment enhanced protection against UV and reduced chlorophyll content. Se, UV and their combination did not cause stress as revealed from grain biomass. Trade-off between primary and secondary metabolism prevented stress in wheat.
