Active and sustainable materials from rice starch, fish protein and oregano essential oil for food packaging

Rice starch and fish proteins were used to prepare eco-friendly and low cost blends. The ratio 50/50 of rice starch/fish protein showed the most interesting properties. Oregano essential oil was successfully incorporated into the blends. The blend showed anti-browning effect against peroxidase enzyme. The blend is promising to develop active packaging for fruits and vegetables.
