Full-length sequence of the gene encoding pyriform spidroin 1 (PySp1) from the silver garden spider Argiope argentata. Bridging the amino-terminal and repetitive regions, A. argentata PySp1 has an exceptionally long and repetitive “linker”. Hydrophobicity and secondary structure of A. argentata PySp1 suggest pyriform silk fiber functional properties. A. argentata PySp1 repeats are nearly identical, indicating extreme intragenic homogenization. Comparison of PySp1 repeats across species reveals variability in two sub-repetitive expansion regions.
