Performance of TiN and TiAlN coated micro-grooved tools during machining of Ti-6Al-4V alloy

Texturing was performed on rake face of the tool in preferred orientation by wire-EDM process.

TiN and TiAlN coatings with 4 μm thickness were made on the cutting tool using Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) technique.

Machining forces and surface roughness were found to be less in TiAlN coated textured tools.

Machinability of Ti-6Al-4V alloy can be increased by textured tools especially PE.T with TiAlN coated tool.
