We tested how stress modulates caretaking motivation in men and women. Stress exposure lead to decreased caretaking motivation in men, but not in women. Skin conductance level increased in stressed men when viewing newborn infants. Men showed a quadratic relation between cortisol changes and caretaking motivation. Cuteness appreciation was not modulated by stress.
