Simple and rapid quantitative determination of urinary albumin using a mobile phone- based analyzer was demonstrated. Images of the sample was captured and digitally processed by the developed application, termed ‘Albumin smart test’, for evaluation of the albumin concentration based on self-calibration approach. By self-calibration, effect of variation of illuminations can be minimized and the albumin test can be performed in ambient light without using any module for lighting control. By the designed application, the distance between the mobile phone and the objects can be easily adjusted and kept constant at every analysis. Non precise measurement can be eliminated. The mobile device was successfully applied to diagnosis of microalbuminuria.
