5-SSA is used to leach copper from malachite for the first time. 5-SSA can generate ionization and complexation reaction with copper ions. 5-SSA can be used to process copper oxide ores. The leaching rate of copper is higher than 99% under the optimum leaching conditions. The leaching process can be modeled using the shrinking core model, and Ea is 42.43 kJ/mol.
