Centrosymmetry vs noncentrosymmetry in La2Ga0.33SbS5 and Ce4GaSbS9 based on the interesting size effects of lanthanides: Syntheses, crystal structures, and optical properties

Two new quaternary sulfides La2Ga0.33SbS5 and Ce4GaSbS9 have been prepared by solid-state reaction.

Ce4GaSbS9 crystallizes in RE4GaSbS9 (RE=Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd–Ho) structure type, while La2Ga0.33SbS5 belongs to the family of La4FeSb2S10-related structure.

The optical gap of 1.76 eV for La2Ga0.33SbS5 was deduced from UV/Vis reflectance spectroscopy.
