497 short-lived eddies detected in a coastal corridor off eastern Australia. About 23 individual short-lived eddies traced per year. 43% of cyclonic eddies (4–5 per year) found off southeast Queensland. Cyclonic eddies displaced shelf water by about 110–120 km. Cyclonic eddies postulated to establish quasi-permanent northward flow.
