Effect of endurance exercise (80% of Ucrit) is reported in both fasting eel stages (yellow and silver) on red muscle mitochondrial function and ROS. For both eel stages, this training compared to previous protocol (70% of Ucrit) could be too intense to properly stimulate mitochondrial function. Opposite effects are observed in yellow and silver eel, respectively increase and decrease in the balance proxidant/antioxidant. The silvering process therefore appears to allow a pre-adaptation of red muscle radical metabolism to the demands of natural spawning migration.
