RAGE deficiency attenuates AoV calcification in ApoE−/− mice via inhibition of ER stress. HMGB1 induces osteoblastic differentiation and calcification of AVICs through RAGE. ER stress-dependent Sox9 activation mediates the effect of HMGB1 on AVICs. RAGE deficiency protects against inflammation both in vitro and in vivo.
