We report a single-step, facile and scalable synthesis route to fabricate BNQDs.

Top-down approach employing high intensity sonication for the formation of BNQDs.

The sonication implying exfoliation and etching of BNNSs in H3PO4 liquid medium.

The thick BNNSs transform into thin BNNSs and these thin BNNSs breaks into BNQDs.
