A method combining direct foaming and gel-casting is used to produce porous materials. Liquid foams stabilized by activated carbon micro-nanoparticles are used as precursors. The liquid foam formulation and the thermal treatment determine the porous material structure and mechanical properties. Hierarchical porosity and high specific area of the monoliths are obtained (>1300 m2/g).
