Impact of CLC reactor thermal coupling is analyzed for alternative cycle configurations.

Thermally balanced reactors increase performance only for cycles with efficient fuel-side engines.

Suitable cycles include combined (CC), regenerative (RC) and combined-regenerative (CRC) cycles.

CRC offers a performance and operational tradeoff between the RC and the CC.

Steam generation penalizes efficiency, except when it improves regenerator exhaust heat recovery.
