Human & mouse macrophages were triggered with a sialoadhesin (Sn)-specific antibody. Sn triggering almost completely blocked phagocytosis of fluorescent beads. No effect was seen for antibody-coated beads taken up via Fc-mediated phagocytosis. Phagocytosis of bacteria was higher in mouse macrophages after Sn triggering.
