Substitution of coal by alternative fuels is a method for greenhouse gas mitigation. Alternative fuels have an impact on the performance of existing pulverized fuel furnaces. Numerical simulations are a useful tool for studying and control of co-firing process. Six different co-firing modes inside a cement calciner were evaluated. The thermal share of solid recovered fuel varied from 0% to 100%.
