Carbon-containing impurities on the TiO2 surface affect photocatalytic reduction. A two-step photocatalytic test allows reliable estimation of CH4 and CO products. Linear correlation between the rate of H2 and CH4 photocatalytic production. CH4 and CO are mainly produced during the TiO2 cleaning step in the absence of CO2.
