xMg/La yCo zNi/MSU-S catalysts were prepared by a sol gel method.

La eliminates the deposited carbon and reduce the excessive aggregation of Ni particles.

3La 2Co 7Ni/MSU-S catalyst exhibited superior stability during CO2/CH4 reforming at 750 °C.

Carbon deposition was the main reason for the deactivation of catalyst.
