We investigate the regolith-atmosphere exchange of water in Mars’ recent past. At 45° obliquity, stable subsurface ice forms in the tropics and mid-latitudes. Atmospheric circulation is important in producing the subsurface water distribution. A dusty atmosphere results in a wetter water cycle and increased subsurface ice.
