Expanded perlite/Al syntactic foams were produced by melt infiltration process. The near spherical shape of perlite particles was achieved by a tumbling process. The rounded particles increased the regularity and reduced the defects of the structure. The rounded perlite particles resulted in higher mechanical properties of foams.
