The informed educator, as the puppet wearer, guided the simulation-based learning experience and demonstrated effective communication and interaction as a nurse. The childlike puppet was real but not too real, thus allowing nursing students to learn and practice pediatric skills and communication in a nonthreatening and supportive environment. Students reported feeling better prepared for clinical practice and interacting with a pediatric patient. Use of a silicone procedural puppet had a positive impact on nursing student engagement and learning.
