Current methods to determine low-strain dynamic soil properties suffer from inconsistencies. Non conventional approach to perform and interpret lab RC and seismic cross-hole test is discussed. This approach is based on fully exploiting the linear theory of viscoelasticity and its postulates. Preliminary results are encouraging although technical difficulties still need to be overcome. New approach allows to enhance current models in computational soil dynamics and overcome flaws.
