Halibut have high post-release survival if mouth-hooked and handled correctly. Extensive vertical movement indicated recovery after catch-and-release. Increasing regulatory catch-and-release may decrease fishing mortality. Fisheries managers are encouraged to implement best practice C&R guidelines.
