A modeling framework for optimal energy management of a residential building

A framework based on model predictive control is proposed to determine optimal dispatch of local subsystems and controllable loads to meet demand of a building in real-time.

This work uses mathematical model of each component and their physical constraints, parameter settings, external information, and user preferences to generate optimal decisions.

Results show that by using energy management system, energy bill and energy consumption in a day can be reduced by 17% and 8%, respectively.
