Tensile properties of maize fibre bundles at different locations of stem are tested. Large variation of stiffness is caused by the big difference of bundle morphology. Gradient distribution of bundle stiffness is found at different locations of stem. Gradient distribution increases the stiffness of basal stem of maize plant.
