Long-term multi-location field trial of hardwood fast pyrolysis biochar Biochar treatments increased soil organic C levels, manure treatments did not. Manure treatments increased soil fertility, biochar did not. Biochar treatments increased biomass yields at only one of six locations. Crop yield responses are anticipated only when soil quality limits productivity.
