Rhodamine B conjugates of triterpenoic acids were prepared. Rhodamine B and the parent triterpenoids were not cytotoxic but the conjugates. The conjugates were cytotoxic for tumor cells with EC50 at nanomolar concentrations. Staining experiments showed these compounds to act as mitocans.
