First observation of the decay D<sup>0sup> sp>→ sp>K<sup>−sup>π<sup>+sup>μ<sup>+sup>μ<sup>−sup> in the ρ<sup>0sup>-ω region of the dimuon mass spectrum

A study of the decay <span id="mmlsi1" class="mathmlsrc"><span class="formulatext stixSupport mathImg" data-mathURL="/science?_ob=MathURL&_method=retrieve&_eid=1-s2.0-S0370269316301022&_mathId=si1.gif&_user=111111111&_pii=S0370269316301022&_rdoc=1&_issn=03702693&md5=a27d90cd9ed1c8a9305ee68cb10567d6" title="Click to view the MathML source">D<sup>0sup>→K<sup>&minus;sup>π<sup>+sup>μ<sup>+sup>μ<sup>&minus;sup>span><span class="mathContainer hidden"><span class="mathCode">si1.gif" overflow="scroll">sup>D0sup>stretchy="false">→sup>K&minus;sup>sup>π+sup>sup>μ+sup>sup>μ&minus;sup>span>span>span> is performed using data collected by the LHCb detector in proton&ndash;proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of <span id="mmlsi2" class="mathmlsrc"><span class="formulatext stixSupport mathImg" data-mathURL="/science?_ob=MathURL&_method=retrieve&_eid=1-s2.0-S0370269316301022&_mathId=si2.gif&_user=111111111&_pii=S0370269316301022&_rdoc=1&_issn=03702693&md5=aa553350039047030cfe0c9c588b103c" title="Click to view the MathML source">2.0 fb<sup>&minus;1sup>span><span class="mathContainer hidden"><span class="mathCode">si2.gif" overflow="scroll">2.0sup> fb&minus;1sup>span>span>span>. Decay candidates with muon pairs that have an invariant mass in the range <span id="mmlsi102" class="mathmlsrc"><span class="formulatext stixSupport mathImg" data-mathURL="/science?_ob=MathURL&_method=retrieve&_eid=1-s2.0-S0370269316301022&_mathId=si102.gif&_user=111111111&_pii=S0370269316301022&_rdoc=1&_issn=03702693&md5=9ca79b3c364a17f07386b953b9201081" title="Click to view the MathML source">675&ndash;875 MeV/c<sup>2sup>span><span class="mathContainer hidden"><span class="mathCode">si102.gif" overflow="scroll">675&ndash;875 MeVstretchy="false">/sup>c2sup>span>span>span> are considered. This region is dominated by the <span id="mmlsi11" class="mathmlsrc"><span class="formulatext stixSupport mathImg" data-mathURL="/science?_ob=MathURL&_method=retrieve&_eid=1-s2.0-S0370269316301022&_mathId=si11.gif&_user=111111111&_pii=S0370269316301022&_rdoc=1&_issn=03702693&md5=ed6c8ea4c95c2a6afc807fff99e1cc17" title="Click to view the MathML source">ρ<sup>0sup>span><span class="mathContainer hidden"><span class="mathCode">si11.gif" overflow="scroll">sup>ρ0sup>span>span>span> and ω resonances. The branching fraction in this range is measured to be
