Epitopes of CSPG4 close to the plasmalemma allow generation of antibodies that recognize CSPG4 on trypsinized cells. Directly isolated keratinocytes located at the derma papillae and the rete ridges show equal colony forming efficiency. Using β1-integrin as a predictive marker of keratinocytes with high colony forming efficiency requires culturing.
