CoS hollow nanoparticles are derived from a template-free method. The mechanism is due to “dissolution-recrystallization” and “Ostwald ripening”. This material exhibits superior sodium storage performance. The improvement is due to the 1D network, hollow nanostructure and surface coating. The synthetic strategy can motivate the preparation of other hollow nanostructures.
