Environmental conflicts can be better understood by the political-discourse theory. Emergence of conflicts is mainly due to the construction of rival discourses. Objective conditions play a role insofar as they are employed in rival discourses. Availability and appeal of anti-mining discourse make locals protesters. Rival discourses are mutually constitutive through hegemonic strategies.
